G8LSD Valve Collection
The EBC3 is a receiving valve of double diode triode construction and the design dates from the 1937-1940 period. It would be used as detector and AGC detector as well as first audio amplifier stage in a superhet receiver.
The base is of the eight side contact variety. These bases were greatly disliked by UK engineers as the valves did not stay properly in place and the contacts oxidized causing intermittent faults. Mullard released this valve in an IO based version as well as a result of this market pressure. This is the EBC33.
The classic envelope is 28 mm in diameter and, excluding the Ct8 base pins, is 87 mm tall.
