   | | The Pen40DD is a double diode and audio output pentode. For low cost local station receivers the diodes would produce the AGC and demodulated signal. For a strong local station the demodulated audio would be able to drive the output pentode directly, thus saving one valve.References: Data-sheet, 1040 & 1043.
