The CV3988 (commercial ML-6442 or 6442) is a planar UHF triode for use up to 5 GHz and it has an 8.0 Watt anode dissipation. The valve is designed to be mounted in a co-axial cavity. The design use is for both CW and pulsed operation.
This exhibit carries the Raytheon name and also the Machlett logo. A better view of the Machlett logo appears on exhibit ML7815.
Here both Raytheon and Machlett can be read. The anode is to the right with the evacuation seal and the grid is the central disc.
The three coaxial base connections, again with ceramic insulation. The heater in the centre, heater and cathode next and the outer ring is the central grid.
Part of the original packaging showing equivalence between the 6442 and the CV3988.
The disc seal ceramic envelope is 10 mm in diameter, and including the connections is 62 mm tall.
