The G1404W is a half wave rectifier. The base is B4 with a side connection on the base and a screw type top cap. The top cap is connected externally to the side contact that itself connects to pin 1 of the B4 base.
The anode is held in place by side arms that end in a collar that is clamped around the pinch tube.
The Type is listed on the base as well as the glass.
The construction features a top mica that is a press fit in the top of the envelope but also a glass rod to the side that holds the filament tension springs. The lower left of the image shows the getter holder cup. The Valvo logo is bisected by the wire linking the top cap to the base. This wire looks to have been part of the manufacture and not added by a user.

The classic envelope is 57 mm in diameter, and excluding the B4 base pins is 145 mm tall.
