The 6JM6 is a Compactron, this one made by General Electric. The 6JM6 is described as a beam pentode and was designed as a line output valve for television receivers. The Compactron was conceived as a vehicle for housing multiple valve sections. In this exhibit, being a power device, some pins are unused.
As a valve designed for line output service, basically used as a switch, the collapse of the field in the line output transformer generates high peak voltages and the 6JM6 can withstand a peak voltage of 6,500 Volts.
The plate anode with side wings for extra surface area for cooling.
The cathode tube is rectangular and the top mica is double thickness.
The wide glass tube envelope is 38 mm in diameter and, excluding the B12C base pins, is 80 mm tall.
