The 6146B is a variant of the popular 6146 HF power beam tetrode. This exhibit from Sylvania also carries the Type designation of 8298A. The 6146B was designed for mobile transmitters and the heater was designed for a wide range of input voltage and not just the 10% around the nominal 6.3 Volts. RCA also state that the 6146B has controlled zero-bias anode current.
The 6146 family first appeared in 1952 with the A and B variants following later in the decade.
The 6146 family all have rounded end anodes with flanges at the centres of the working faces for best heat dissipation.
The wide glass tube envelope is 38 mm in diameter and excluding the IO base pins, the valve is 81 mm.
