The John Hodgson Collection
The 6AU8 is a general purpose triode pentode for use in 600 mA heater chain television receivers. In Europe the standard was 300 mA heater chains as the mains voltage is approximately 230 Volts. In America with 110 Volt mains a 600 mA heater chain made better sense. Thus we conclude that this valve was for the American market and 525 line televisions.
On the left is the pentode with the twin anode plates connected by a pair of straps. The smaller triode system is on the right of the picture.
The thin glass tube envelope is 21 mm in diameter, and excluding the B9A base pins is 60 mm tall.
