The NR8 is a Mullard horned valve and was made for the British Navy as a receiving valve. The civilian equivalent is the R.8. The valve is dated to 1922.
Thrower1003 states that although we know little about this valve, it was intended as an HF amplifier and the operating parameters are probably close to the R Type.
The electrode structure is conventional apart from the anode and grid being taken to the horns rather than the base. The filament is a single strand at the centre of the anode. The grid is helical and the anode is a thin bright cylinder.
See also The Fotos Horned valve.
The balloon envelope is 51 mm in diameter and, excluding the B4 base pins, is 90 mm tall.
Reference: 1003. Type NR8 was first introduced in 1922. See also 1922 adverts.
