The NU8 mercury vapour half wave rectifier is fitted with an Edison Screw (ES) base. The device is an RG1-125 MV rectifier supplied by Mullard. Like the GU1 it was troublesome in service and was soon replaced by a redesigned and uprated version, the RG1-240A.
The Admiralty, however, persisted in using the obsolete version.
The classic envelope is 43 mm in diameter and, has an overall length of 125 mm.
