Associated Electrical Industries Ltd. (AEI) was formed in 1928 by the merger of BTH, Edison Swan and Metrovick. Following this merger, Edison Swan took responsibility for manufacture of radio valves, and BTH concentrated on the production of radio receivers. In 1961, AEI and Thorn Electrical Industries Ltd. formed a joint company to combine their valve interests. This company was named Thom-AEI Ltd. with day-to-day control given to Thorn. During the 1960s, the winds of change were blowing in the British electronic industry. In 1967 GEC took over AEI, and in 1969, the AEI valves interests were sold to Thom. This led to the formation of a new company, Thom Radio Valves and Tubes Ltd.
