The PCL85 is a triode and output pentode combined. The PCL85 was used as frame output valve on monochrome tv's and occasionally (ITT CVC5 chassis) colour tv's. The pentode section does not have an audio output rating as one would expect.
The discolouration inside the envelope shows that this was run hard during the time spent in service.
Copper control grid supports topped with radiating fins.
The small voltage amplifying triode against the power section on the right. There is a bright electrostatic screen between the sections.
The thin glass tube envelope is 20 mm in diameter and, excluding the B9A base pins, is 70 mm tall.
References: Data-sheet & 1040. Type PCL85 was first introduced in 1961. See also 1961 adverts.
