The CV1486 is an S Band cavity magnetron based on the M519 design. There are four fixed frequency versions CV1483 - CV1486. SeeCV1485 for another example. This exhibit was in the original cardboard outer carton with an expanded polystyrene inner protective container. Early examples of this style of magnetron were protected by multiple layers of corrugated card cut as rectangles with appropriate shapes cut from the centre of the middle layers of the pile and stacked together. See3D for an example.
The probe would be fitted into waveguide and the magnet pole pieces would be sited either side of the central section. The case would be ground potential with the filament at a very high negative potential.
The central tube is 37 mm in diameter and the finned section is 76 mm in diameter.
The seven fins across the case.
The wide metal tube envelope is 37 mm in diameter and, excluding the base wires, is 187 mm tall.
