The NR88, later renamed the CV1197, is a UHF oscillator triode for use up to 600 MHz. The prototype was the RL18 that became the EC53.
A clear view of the construction. The multi-part pin on the left can be seen not to wet the glass until the red section is reached.
The amazing fact is that these were hand assembled to close tolerances.
The thin glass tube envelope is 15 mm in diameter, and including the B3G base pins is 50 mm tall.
Reference: Data-sheet. Type NR88 was first introduced in 1941. See also 1941 adverts.
