The VR57 is an octode frequency changer or mixer that dates to 1940. The VR designation indicates a pre WWII RAF use. The manufacturer is not marked and the zinc paint is breaking away from the glass.
The reverse has no additional information but shows even more damage to the zinc paint.
The classic envelope is 30 mm in diameter and, excluding the IO base pins, is 86 mm tall.
References: Datasheet & 1043. Type VR57 was first introduced in 1940.
