This EY86 is a television EHT rectifier that is rated in terms of peak inverse volts (PIV) and that is quoted at 22,000 Volts. This exhibit shows the Marconi brand version.
This design of EHT rectifier is shielded to contain the X-Rays produced by the electron bombardment.
The base of the bell anode is bent upwards. This gives a rounded surface that reduces the chances of corona discharge or arcing between the anode and cathode.
The thin glass tube envelope is 20 mm in diameter and excluding the B9A base pins the valve is 66 mm long.
References: Data-sheet & 1040. Type EY86 was first introduced in 1956. See also 1956 adverts.
