The 6161 is a power triode designed to produce power at UHF frequencies in the grounded grid amplifier configuration. At reduced ratings this forced air cooled valve can be used up to 2 GHz.
The 6161 was issued in 1952 and for new designs replaced the 5588.
The cooling ribbon adds a great deal of extra area for the cooling air to pass over. In use the valve would sit in a special base and chimney arrangement with the air forced from below and out over the anode.
The heater and cathode connections. The identification is on the cathode ring.
The cathode end showing the grid connection. The electrodes are mounted concentrically with a radial electron flow.
The wide glass tube envelope is 31 mm in diameter and, including the base, is 85 mm tall.
