The LD15 is an indirectly heated UHF transmitting triode operating at around 460 MHz. The heater rating at a maximum of 14 Volts is a 12 Volt lead-acid battery on charge. It was used in pulse mode.
It was made for the German Wehrmacht Luftwaffe.
The triode found use as a power oscillator and/or frequency doubler. In pulse mode the maximum power output was 1.5 kW.
The electrodes are mounted horizontally and the anode has a solid mass of metal as heat sink.
Here the coiled heater wire can be seen on the right and the end of the grid winding extends beyond the anode.
The LD15 was designed to be user replaceable and the centre hole is where the Bakelite knob would be fitted.
The base pins are pointed to ensure engagement with the base. The key on the metal top ensures the correct orientation.
The wide glass tube envelope is 40 mm in diameter and, excluding the base pins, is 68 mm tall.
