The AFX203 is a directly heated Xenon Thyratron. The heater voltage is the old American AC standard of 2.5 Volts. In use the filament glows orange.

The inner curved plates are connected to the ribbon filament. The outer cylinder has the mesh grid set into the top.

The filament appears distorted due to the curve of the glass.

The filament can be seen to be corrugated to give strength and longer length and surface area.

The classic envelope is 55 mm in diameter, and excluding the UX4 base pins is 139 mm tall.
