The EBC80 is a double diode triode with the triode designed for audio amplification. The diodes share the same cathode as the triode. The literature refers only to the EBC81 and thus we may conclude that the upgrade happened early in the life of this valve design.
The valve is marked Foreign and shows how manufacture became uneconomic in the UK.
The thin glass tube envelope is 20 mm in diameter, and excluding the B9A base pins is 59 mm tall.
References: Data-sheet & 1040. Type EBC80 was first introduced in 1954. See also 1954 adverts.
