The PCF86 is a miniature VHF TV frequency changer and it replaced the PCF80 in that role.. It has been designed for the triode oscillator to supply 3.2 Volts peak to peak to the pentode mixer section.
The pentode is of frame-grid construction.
The copper strut in the centre is the screen grid connection.
The Triode section is on the right. The fine heater wire is coiled prior to insulation being applied.
This exhibit was complete with the original box.
The box gives price and tax information and is from the era when the UK regarded anything not made at home as Foreign.
The valve packaging within the box. The paper doubles up as the guarantee.
The thin glass tube envelope is 20 mm in diameter and, excluding the B9A base pins, is 48 mm tall.
References: Data-sheet, 3002 & 1040. Type PCF86 was first introduced in 1960. See also 1960 adverts.
