The 6AN5 is a miniature beam tetrode power amplifier that can produce 1.25 Watts.
The data-sheet gives applications as wide band RF or video amplifier, pulse amplifier or frequency divider.
The 6AN5WA special quality version where the cathode was designed to withstand operating for long periods under cut-off conditions - as needed for computer circuits.
The anode is formed from a single sheet as two plates and a joining strap. The beam plate in the centre houses the cathode and inner grids.
One part of the anode from the side. The heater wire has thick insulation and is coiled.
Another example of the 6An5 where the anode is two discrete plates that are joined by a welded wire. Here the heater is not coiled.
The grids are shaped to pass flat across the cathode. This can be most clearly seen in the opening above the anode strap wire.
The thin glass tube envelope is 18 mm in diameter, and excluding the B7G base pins is 45 mm tall.
Reference: Data-sheet. Type 6AN5 was first introduced in 1952. See also 1952 adverts.
