The PCL85 is a triode and output pentode combined. The PCL85 was used as frame output valve on monochrome tv's and occasionally (ITT CVC5 chassis) colour tv's. The pentode section does not have an audio output rating.
This is a generic unbranded valve.
The small triode on the right, central screen and the power section on the left.
The pentode anode is stitched together.
This has been taken from the image above and shows the inner grids. Both are shaped to pass flat across the cathode. The absence of a third grid indicates that the construction is of the beam tetrode type.
The thin glass tube envelope is 20 mm in diameter and, excluding the B9A base pins, is 73 mm tall.
References: Data-sheet & 1040. Type PCL85 was first introduced in 1961. See also 1961 adverts.
