The CV3888 (ECH42) is a triode hexode mixer in an all glass envelope fitted with a B8A base and designed for radio receivers.
This Mullard valve is marked as Foreign Made. The way the hard glass base is joined to the soft glass envelope looks to be typically Philips.
Looking through the outer screening mesh reveals a small assembly near the top - this is the local oscillator triode with the mixer below.
The thin glass tube envelope is 20 mm in diameter, and excluding the B8A base pins is 53 mm tall.
