The STC 5A/180M is an amplifier pentode with a very high slope. The mutual conductance value is 32 mA/V and therefore is very sensitive. The anode voltage is in the realm of battery operation but it probably was used in mains equipment. Possible applications would be early stage audio or video amplification.
The wide glass tube envelope is 27 mm in diameter, and excluding the B8B base pins, is 36 mm tall.
