From the size of the waveguide port on this oscillator klystron, the R9518 was designed to produce RF at above 20 GHz. Tuning is conventional by the mechanical altering of the cavity. The tuning rod is threaded with a pitch of about 0.7 mm and is spring loaded to remove backlash.

The wide metal tube envelope is 34 mm in diameter and, excluding the IO base pins, is 103 mm tall. The key slot tuning rod is 53 mm long.
