The 55875R camera tube is a red sensitive Plumbicon. Three, or four, would be used with suitable light splitting systems in a colour TV camera. The splitting would be done by prisms and dichroic filters and is optically inefficient and a lot of the incident light is lost through absorption before it reaches the pick-up tubes. Thus the pick-up tubes need to be very sensitive if abnormally high light levels are to be avoided.
In use the tube would be held within a complex of magnetic focus and scanning coils.
The end window envelope is 32&nb sp;mm in diameter and, excluding the base pins, is 196&nb sp;mm tall.
