The 5Z4 was designed to supply equipment of up to 40 Watts total power, this rectifier was made by several manufacturers. This suggests it became a very popular type. In addition to the commercial 5Z4 designation this valve is also marked VT-74 as the US Government code.

The thin metal tube envelope is 24 mm in diameter and excluding the IO base pins, is 65 mm tall.
