The 8844 is a small Videcon camera tube. In use the tube would be mounted in a scan coil assembly so that the low speed electron beam can be swept over the target in the TV raster scan pattern.
Small Videcon tubes were used for closed circuit TV systems as well as portable equipment.
The target connection ring is seen as gold plated. The tube has a round light sensitive area, other types of tube had shaped targets.
The base pins and electron gun assembly. See also S4145B Newvicon tube.
The thin glass tube envelope is 18 mm in diameter and, excluding the B7G base pins, is 90 mm long. At the target end the diameter rises to 20 mm.
