The CV2174 is the UK Government procurement designation for the STC G240/2D cold cathode Thyratron. The main anode electrode can be seen shielded in a glass rod. The cathode is the domed electrode above the pinch and coaxially within the cathode is a smaller annular electrode just outside the glass shielding rod. This is the trigger and only a small gap exists between it and the cathode. When conducting the voltage drop across the valve is 90 Volts. The discharge is initiated by a voltage on the trigger electrode.
The wide glass tube envelope is 27 mm in diameter, and excluding the IO base pins, is 73 mm tall.
Reference: Data-sheet. Type CV2174 was first introduced in 1958. See also 1958 adverts.
