The RG3-250 is a mercury vapour half-wave power rectifier. The anode is caged to reduce the emission of x-rays from the envelope. Such a rectifier would have been used in transmitting or radar equipment. See also RG3-250A the variant where the top cap is of the top hat style.
The filament and cathode connects to the base and the anode to the top-cap.
The classic envelope is 42 mm in diameter and, is 147 mm tall.
