The type CV617 (commercially the Type 80) was the landmark full-wave rectifier and (we think) the first mass-produced rectifier to use oxide-coated tape filaments when introduced by RCA.
See 80 for full details of the design of this standard rectifier.
The maximum reservoir capacitor is 32 µF and the minimum series resistance, to limit current, is 30 Ω.
The KB/T identifies this valve as being made to specification K1001 or K1006, the B denotes qualification by a UK authority and the T identifies the maker as British Tungsram, Tottenham.
The folded anodes are stitched together to give a side flange for fixing and additional cooling area.
Face view of the anodes. The base pins are solid as they fit into a bayonet base with sideways thrust on insertion.
A closer view of the anodes above the pinch.
The oxide covered ribbon filament welded to the support. Typically the ribbon base would be nickel or a nickel alloy.
The classic envelope is 45 mm in diameter and, excluding the UX4 base pins, is 102 mm tall.
