The CV6008 (commercially the 24B9) is a gas filled triggered spark gap modulator known as a Trigatron. The fabric basket sealed in resin was required as these devices had a habit of shattering explosively during use. The pulse power switched into a magnetron was of the order of 160 kW.
The varnished basket covering the glass was present to prevent the escape of the glass in the case of shattering in service.
Inside the main electrodes can be seen as two domes. In the centre of the lower electrode is a hole with a pointed rod in the centre - this is the trigger electrode.
The open base with the twisted wires for the lower electrode and the trigger.
The wide glass tube envelope is 68 mm in diameter and, including the base pins, is 146 mm tall.
