The VX3061/W is an experimental UHF disc seal triode. The connections left to right are:- anode, grid, cathode/heater and heater as centre connection.
The /W suffix indicates a valve which has been modified for military usage, either with respect to environmental characteristics, reliability, or both. Here the heater leads are integral to the construction and have a braided sheath leading from the body. Our VX3061 has no such connections.
It is possible that this was the prototype for the DET29 as the construction looks to be identical. The experimental Type in the John Lawrence Collection seems to also match this design.
The anode has slots in the conical walls.
The fine horizontal wires of the frame grid are just visible bottom right, but the very close spacing of the flat top cathode and base of the anode can be clearly seen.
The planar envelope is 12 mm in diameter and, excluding the base pins, is 59 mm tall.
Reference: Observation.
