The 4B31 is a high power half wave rectifier. Two separate cathode assemblies are located within the anode cavity. The latter has additional fins to aid cooling. The ceramic insulators point to the high voltage design. As is common the anode voltage is quoted in terms of maximum Peak Inverse Voltage as not all input signals are sinusoidal.
The wide glass tube envelope is 60 mm in diameter and, excluding the special large B4 style base pins, is 147 mm tall.
