The John Lawrence Collection
This is a 3 cm Radar cavity magnetron shown without side covers or magnets. The cavities that define the operating frequency are clearly visible. The magnetron was designed for pulse operation and the output power is taken via the glass shielded probe into the waveguide. The waveguide used is now known as Old English and had internal dimensions of 1 x 0.5 inches. The filament connections can be seen as the cover is made of glass. The overall voltage across the device would be up to 12 kV.
This magnetron was designed to generate 60 kW pulses of 1Μs duration and repeated up to 1,000 times a second.
Thanks to Mark Atherton for identifying this magnetron as an M505. The CV reference would be CV1547.
The central fins are 75 mm in diameter and the overall length is 203 mm.
