The G1/371k is a gas filled trigger tube and functions in a similar way to a thyratron in that a control voltage at a critical level will initiate an ionization of the gas across the main gap and cause a rapid breakdown of the gap resistance.
The G1/371k is described as an exceptionally high-speed trigger tube. In addition to the main gap this device features a low current (up to 500 μA) priming gap and a secondary control electrode known as a shield. When positively biased (say 150 Volts), the shield facilitates rapid de-ionization in the order of 35 μs.
The maximum pulse output current is 15 mA. A series resistance of 390,000 Ohms is needed in the anode circuit to limit the pulse. The anode maximum voltage is 360 Volts. To trigger at this voltage
The thin glass tube envelope is 18 mm in diameter, and excluding the B7G base pins is 44 mm tall.
