G8LSD Valve Collection
The CV4046 is an American pattern double beam tetrode VHF RF amplifier. The design was developed from the CV415 and can operate at maximum ratings up to a frequency of 200 MHz. Each section has an anode dissipation of 8 Watts and a screen dissipation of 3 Watts. RF amplifiers of this vintage would have been designed for CW and AM use and so were intended to operate in class C. In this mode of operation the anode current into the tank circuit occurs for part of the cycle only. In this valve the average cathode current is 60 mA but the peak is designed to be 375 mA taking into account the class C operation.
The American pattern VHF tetrodes required external neutralisation and were overtaken by the European pattern valves such as the 10 Watt dissipation QQV03/10.
The anodes are each containing a volume of approximately 18 x 15 x 9 mm (w x h x d).
The wide glass tube envelope is 38 mm in diameter and, excluding the B9G base pins, is 65 mm tall.
