G8LSD Valve Collection
The 5692 valve is a double triode. It was listed in the literature in 1951 but by 1956 it had been dropped. Type 5692 is simply a type 6SN7GT of 'pinchless' construction, in a short tubular bulb and with a slimline base cap.
Low-frequency characteristics are as type 6SN7 but high-frequency characteristics, especially noise figure, are significantly better than in the original 6SN7. Such valves were at one time much used in professional TV (ie. studio) equipment.
Once the necessary production equipment had been installed, valves using the improved construction cost no more to make than the older 'pinch' version so the standard 6SN7 became 'pinchless' and there was no longer any need to distinguish them by a 'professional' type number.
The valve is low gain low impedance.
The wide glass tube envelope is 28 mm in diameter and, excluding the IO base pins, is 53 mm tall.
