G8LSD Valve Collection
This magnetron was designed for military radar and operates in pulsed mode at a fixed frequency of 9390 MHz. The cavity magnetron is basically a directly heated diode with a set of resonant cavities machined from the anode block. The valve is held in a powerful magnetic field and the electrons excite resonances in the cavities as they spiral out from the filament and give rise to high power RF. This type of magnetron operated at a peak anode voltage of 11.5 to 14 kV volts and gave output pulses of some 45 kW peak.
The glass envelope protrudes into waveguide 16. The waveguide is nearly closed at one end, forming a cavity, and the open end is fitted with a standard square flange.
The bright mounting flange is 80 mm in diameter. The black circular finned section is 75 mm in diameter. The waveguide is 88 mm long. The waveguide flange is 41 mm square.
