This exhibit is labelled as a V24 but is in fact a type Q. It was designed about 1919 by Captain Round of the Marconi company. The 24 in the designation refers to the standard battery voltage then used by UK Military Services. It was designed as an RF amplifier, and worked well. To avoid instability several stages of amplification were used in cascade.
Visual inspection reveals a cylindrical mesh anode with a helical grid within. The filament is connected to the terminals at either end.
The thin glass tube envelope is 15 mm in diameter and the length is 70 mm.
