The XG1-2500 is a triode mercury vapour thyratron with a negative control characteristic. It was primarily designed for motor speed control and similar industrial applications.

The anode positive peak could be 1.0 kV and the negative peak 1.5 kV. At above 25 Hz the maximum anode current could be 15 Amp, below 25 Hz it had to be limited to 5.0 Amp. The heater voltage was between 4.5 and 5.5 Volts.

The classic envelope is 57 mm in diameter and, excluding the UX4 base pins, is 159 mm tall.
